On the occasion of the Feast of Saint Paisios the Athonite, and with the blessing of His Beatitude Patriarch Theophilos III, Patriarch of the Holy City of Jerusalem and all Palestine and Jordan, His Eminence Metropolitan Christophoros, Metropolitan of Jordan for the Greek Orthodox, announced the launch of the project to build the Church of Saints Paisios, Sophronius, and Porphyrios in the Airport Road area of Amman, along with the launch of the project’s official website. This website will serve as a platform to introduce the Church’s vision and its implementation phases, and to provide an opportunity for members of the Church in Jordan and the diaspora to participate in this spiritual edifice. In a recorded message on this occasion, His Eminence emphasized that choosing the feast day of Saint Paisios to launch the project holds profound spiritual significance. The project unites three of the Church’s great saints who have left an enduring mark on the lives of the faithful: the contemporary saints Paisios and Porphyrios, along with Saint Sophronius, Patriarch of Jerusalem, who embodies the historical and spiritual continuity of the Church of Jerusalem.
His Eminence noted that these saints offer contemporary humanity a living example of holiness and faith in the face of the challenges of our time. He affirmed that the Church’s mission is not limited to building structures, but aims to build up people and connect them to the lives of the saints who lived the Gospel through witness and action.
Metropolitan Christophoros explained that pastoral needs necessitate the construction of a new church in the Airport Road area, given the urban development and the relocation of many families to the western part of the capital. He emphasized that the Church is always keen to remain close to its members, to continue as a beacon of faith and a source of peace, hope, and grace in the lives of the faithful. He added that the church, situated in the heart of residential neighborhoods, constantly reminds people of the Kingdom of Heaven and grants them spiritual strength to face life’s challenges. He emphasized that contributing to the construction of churches is a blessed act that leaves a lasting spiritual impact on a person’s life.
His Eminence also commended the significant role played by the Orthodox Cultural and Educational Association, expressing his gratitude for their donation of the land on which the project will be built. The land is registered in the name of the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem. He considered this donation a testament to the loyalty of the forefathers who acquired this land many years ago, eagerly anticipating the day a church would be built to serve the people of the area.
He noted that the project’s implementation is being overseen by the Very Reverend Archimandrite Athanasios Qaqish, who is monitoring the construction and preparation phases of this new church.
